I'm just your average 'meat and potatoes' drummer really. I bash out the (uncomplicated) beat for your average indie rock band and love every second of it! Too old and fat to rock n roll but absolutely unwilling to let that get in the way of my fun...

Late 60s George Hayman Vibrasonic: 22/13/16 (and I have another one in 22/ 12/ 13/ 16 in need of some TLC)
1961 Premier (think it was a '58' but not absolutely certain): 20/12/16.
Snares: Pork Pie cherry/maple; Yamaha FRP; Beverley 21; Ludwig 411 SS; Ludwig Acrolite; Premier Royal Ace; Rogers Super Ten
Cymbals: Paiste 2002 18 and 20" Crashes; 22" Ride and 15" Sound Edge hi hats. Am currently trying to assemble something a bit more mellow for variety...

The guys who made me want to play drums were Rat Scabies; Philthy Animal Taylor; Clem Burke; Charlie Watts; Phil Rudd.
I'm not that bothered about the uber-endorsed technical wizards or the achingly cool clinician types. I can't play like them, I never will be able to and I don't especially have a need to. I'd rather spend a day playing as well as Phil Rudd than a lifetime playing like Mike Portnoy!
The single biggest influence on me was a weird one however. I was about 9 years old, inquisitive, annoying and hanging around trying to watch a band rehearse in a barn through the window. During a break I watched a guitarist have a bash on the kit. It was the first time I'd ever experienced the wonder of a kit in all its glory.
Looking back he could probably barely play it but the power of it all made a huge impact on me. I was at secondary school before I got to touch a real kit (a blue shimmer 70s Olympic 4 piece and it was absolutely as enthralling and wonderful as I had hoped!
I had to wait until I was 18 to finally get a kit if my own (a 5 piece Maxwin that pieces of hardware were forever falling off) and it was all downhill form there...
