JAZDZE'S DRUM SITE

I am 20 years of age and started playing drums at the age of 12. I live in a small village in the north of germany. In 1999 I joined the local music school for drums after I had cancelled learning flute. So I always wanted to play drums but I had to convince my parents first. Luckily I did well and so I started playing drums after I had damaged several pairs of wooden spoons for cooking. I also play piano and I get lessons in music theory and hearing, as well. I think a drummer should have a clue not only about his drumset, but he should know as many things as he is able to learn about music and its history. I really try to figure out how to play "only for the music" and not to "show" the hardest techqniques and rolls, which don't fit in the musical context. I don't like the "Wow! He can play that fast!"effect. I prefer the "Wow! He has got a sense for music and knows when to lean forward and when to hold back!" I know that this journey hasn't ended yet and probably won't end soon...

In the first years Lars Ullrich of Metallica was my biggest influence. Later I liked the style of Mike Portnoy, because of his speed and power. Nowadays Steve Gadd, John Blackwell, Jeff Hamilton and Carter Beauford belong to my favorites. Furthermore I of course love the drumming of Buddy Rich. At least two drummers are to mention, too: Dennis Chambers and Steve Smith, i really adore their style of Big-Band Drumming. Precise but never "too much". Exactly the right level.

Theatre music: I played drums in a Theatre in our town for a play from Johann Nepomuk Nestroy. It was performed by the theatregroup of my school, where I graduated from last year. It was a great experience to make another kind of music, after playing in several rock groups and emo-punkbands. Music school: As well I join the local Dixieland Combo and the Big band of our music school. Fur

I wish to study music and to become a teacher. We'll see what goes on EDIT: I did very well in my first examinations at different universities throughtout Germany. That's why I am now allowed to study music:-) So the wish upon, isn't a wish any longer because it seems that it wil be fulfilled in October this year when I officially can start my drum studies:) Another wish: Meeting one of the "big drummers" such as Dennis Chambers or Steve Gadd for just a few minutes... (probably won't come true soon:-( )
